A metronome is a valuable tool for accurate and effective piano practice. Unlike the wind-up metronomes many of us grew up with, todays electronic tools are far more accurate and flexible with sound adjustments and meter changes. While we have many iPad, iPhone, and iPod metronome apps on the market, my favorite remains the Steinway Metronome. Various other apps may have more elaborate bells and whistles, the Steinway Metronome keeps things simple with an accurate count and a clear, easy-to-read display. A flashing light lets you mute the sound if you prefer.
The Steinway app has multiple time signatures available, plus, equally important, you can control the volume, It displays in both portrait or landscape mode , and even better, the metronome app is easy to use for students of all ages and competencies. Yes, you may find more sophisticated controls and displays in others, but this free app consists of the basics that most musicians need.
Best stand-alone metronome
If you prefer an actual stand-alone metronome, I recommend the Korg MA-1 with volume control. It is easy to use, light to carry, withstands multiple drops behind the piano, and is effective.[/fusion_text][/fusion_builder_column][/fusion_builder_row][/fusion_builder_container]
