Adult piano study, and success

learn to play piano keyboard

In my experience, adults who enroll in adult classical piano lessons are some of the most eager to learn, and the results usually exceed their own expectations! Adult piano lessons can be enjoyed at any age or time.
Some beginners are hesitant at first, but often progress quickly, and gain an enriched appreciation of the music that they listen to and what they play on the piano. Most are surprised at how far they go in such a short length of time (see What People Say?).
"I so value her competence and easy-going manner, both of which have contributed to the degree of success and progress I’ve made under her instruction. I'm proud to say that after seven years with Susan, I am playing at a surprisingly high level."

It's Never Too Late!

My oldest adult beginner (from Weston, MA) started her studies at the age of 82, and continued for nearly a decade. She frequently shared her piano music at a yearly home Christmas recital for her family.

Adult piano students find success

As with any new activity, with practice, piano playing becomes an increasingly satisfying avocation. As a matter of fact, my adult students often ask me to participate in my regularly scheduled piano recitals. It's exciting to share their success with others.
"You allow me to move at my own pace without any pressure. My enjoyment of listening to music has also been enhanced since taking lessons with you, and I am so amazed at how quickly I progress in such a short period of time!"

Movements can range from the rolling of a ball from one person to another while seated on the floor, or walking and using assorted arm motions. View an example of Eurythmics with the following link for Internationally renowned teacher Lisa Parker.

With a focus on rhythmic musical expression, Eurythmics encourages a student to experience rhythm, and express that understanding through improvised movements of his body. A student learns to simultaneously hear, understand and express the musical idea through motion. So the body interprets and expresses musical elements, such as rhythm, in real-time. Music becomes a full-body experience. The student can then apply their experience of musical concepts to their piano playing. A group approach to music study.

The understanding of any one element, such as rhythm, is then expressed in physical movement.

The Dalcroze Practice  Take a deeper dive into the principles, philosophy, strategies, and techniques of Dalcroze Education indicated on their website. "Typically the Dalcroze educator engages students to discover concepts through kinesthetic experience before addressing the subject in theoretical or written form. This experience involves improvisation, which is a way for students to “play with” and internalize a subject, making it their own. Students cannot expect to gain a Dalcroze Education from a book or video alone; they must experience this type of education in the classroom."
